Why Winter Elopements Are a Fun Option.

Winter wonderland in the snow with staircases,

It’s engagement season (typically from Thanksgiving through February) so if you don’t want to wait for a Spring, Summer or Fall wedding, a Winter elopement may be a perfect option for you.

Although eloping used to mean just you two and someone to marry you, these days it can include a small gathering of family and friends, an officiant and a photographer.

Winter weddings invite warm, cozy, intimate settings even if you actually say your vows outside under a pine tree or on a mountaintop. You’ll want to keep the ceremony to 10-15min so it can be whimsical but meaningful...and knowing you will be retreating indoors afterwards will keep everyone on their toes (in their boots).

Winter weddings provide you with beautiful photographs because of the ideal lighting and earlier sunsets. You know...moody, romantic- a blanket of white shades for your backdrop.

It’s Practical and More Personal

The practical and magical thing about eloping in the winter is that it’s smaller, more personal and often, less expensive plus, it’s DIFFERENT. And, usually, you can expect discounts from wedding vendors during the “off season.”

Think about the fun attire, like wool suits, cardigan vests, trendy ski suits or a fur cape or wrap to wear with your dress.

Picture yourselves in venues like a grand lodge in the mountains with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a winter wonderland, or outside a winter resort by the firepit, maybe on top of a ski slope then taking a run down the mountain or chairlift/gondola ride to and from the lodge.

After a 4:00 ceremony you can opt for hors d’oeuvres and cocktails instead of dinner.

You could rent a VRBO where everyone snowshoes or snow mobiles to the perfect spot among the trees or at the edge of a frozen lake and returns for a toast with hot chocolate or toddies!

Add a sleigh ride for an extra romantic feeling.

Even if you are not in the mountains you can marry on the landing of a grand staircase in a historic hotel with snowflakes or icicles just beyond the entry.

Or celebrate your nuptials in a beautifully decorated hotel foyer and lobby and adjourn to brunch with champagne, warm mugs of coffee or cider and a bloody mary bar.

Even your favorite ice skating rink, town plaza, theater or museum can be a unique and festive place to have your winter wedding.

So, if you are about to pop the question or find yourself being proposed to...with a little imagination, some white sparkly lights and a playful attitude,  you don’t have to wait--a winter ceremony can be the most memorable!
